End DISCRIMINATION in golf competitions
End DISCRIMINATION in golf competitions
The Issue
Golfers who play regularly can obtain an authorised handicap that is recognised around the world as being indicative of their golfing capability, allowing players of varying capabilities to compete equitably.
However, whereas players with lower and mid handicaps compete for trophies using their official handicap, higher handicappers often have to compete off a maximum handicap lower than their own. Treating higher handicappers in this manner is clear discrimination, (treating groups of people differently.)
CONGU® rules state this contravenes the spirit of the game, but don’t go as far as to ban it. So, much like tax avoidance, this discrimination is within the rules although morally reprehensible.
Many golf clubs’ constitution state they operate an equal opportunities policy, but the traditionalists say it’s the way competitions have always been run, and everyone does it.
Well times are changing! Slavery has been abolished, women can vote, and equality is a key part of modern society.
Please support this petition to ask CONGU® to formally rule all players must compete off their official handicap, and not a lower “maximum” handicap.
