I am a Marine Corps Veteran who fought for this country and believe in the beauty of our constitution let me first say that. I also believe that the only way to get to peaceful, impactful change is to use the power of our constitution, and to embed laws that apply equally to all. Our system of checks and balances seems to have skipped over law enforcement officers for way too long and we need legislation that puts police on notice that they are not above the law, especially the murder of a civilian in their custody. It is time that we come together to petition for and support legislation that demands an independent investigation when there is a police involved shooting or killing of a civilian. It is an unrealistic ask to think justice will be served when the people who work together everyday are asked to prosecute and police themselves. It is my hope that I am not the only Man or Woman in America who is tired of seeing their brothers slain in the streets our ancestors built and our families left heart broken, helpless and without justice. Please let’s do what we can and ask our legislators to draft a bill that truly protects us. We can’t simply just protest! We must follow through with a call to action that is a catalyst to real justice and better policing practices. Our country is the greatest country in the world because brave men and women seem to always stand up and answer the call to be part of the necessary changes that continue to make us great. We owe the next generation a place where they should not fear walking down the street or what might happen to them if pulled over by law enforcement. The only way we ensure that is to join a movement that demands legislation and actionable laws that protect them.
