The Issue
To the United States Congressional Caribbean Caucus.
On Friday, June 9 2023, the Cameroon American Council received and urgent letter from 14 Cameroonians stuck on the Caribbean Islands of St. Kitts and Nevis. They are seeking UN and US congressional intervention.

This #FreedomFriday, with the June Trifecta as Caribbean Heritage Month, Immigrant Heritage Month and the themes of freedom during Juneteenth, Cameroonians are seeking freedom!
Fourteen Cameroon migrants who felt the watery presence of their enslaved African while submerged in the Atlantic ocean as their boat capsized, are on hungerstrike.
They are protesting inside a heavily militarized immigration jail on the Caribbean islands of St. Kitts and Nevis.
In December of 2022, Cameroon migrants arrived at Antigua. They bought tickets to Nicaragua and sought Nicaragua's visa on entry policy. Yet, due to the systemic anti-Africanness and anti-Blackness in Nicaragua and other Latin American countries, visa upon arrival (granted to all European countries were denied to these Cameroon migrants).
So, out of desperation and the prolonged anti-Africa immigration practices of Latin American counrries, in March of 2023, the Cameroon migrants were approached by a human traffickers in Antigua.
The human smugglers cramped a fishing sailing boat registered in France, with 30 Cameroonians and zero life jackets to sail across the choppy waters of the Atlantic ocean. They departed the Caribbean Island of Antigua and capsized near St Kitts and Nevis.
Of the 30 Cameroonians, 16 Cameroonians drowned in the Atlantic Oceans (most of the bodies have not been recovered).
Miraculously, 14 Cameroonians survived with sever injuries to their mental, emotional and physical health.
On #FreedomFriday, June 9th 2023, the 14 survivors wrote an SOS (Save Our Souls) "message in a bottle" to the Cameroon American Council.
The Cameroon American Council is calling on Congress, Community, Comrades and Communications experts across the Caribbean and United States to help raise awareness about their plight and to seek the safe release home to Texas.
Where our Texan Cameroon community members and allies are readi to receive them and provide services that culturally sensitive, language appropriate and religious appreciation.
Join our fight to support the urgent evacuation of the 14 survivors (including 3 young women who were victims of abuse).
