Gwapotel or Hotel Guapo let it remain open to cater to OFWs and all other poor Filipinos!
The Issue
All HANDSOME OR GWAPO, concerned and responsible Filipinos, let us all unite! Together let us strongly oppose the sudden closure of Gwapotel or Hotel Gwapo.
ABRUPT CLOSURE OF GWAPOTEL HAS DISPLEASED AND SURELY SHALL DISPLACE MORE OR LESS SIX HUNDRED (600) AFFECTED WORKERS, BUS OR TAXI DRIVERS, SMALL ENTREPRENEURS, LOW -BUDGET TRAVELLERS, LOCAL AND OVERSEAS JOB APPLICANTS AND EVEN PARENTS OF STUDENTS STUDYING IN METRO MANILA UNIVERSITIES!
These 600 workers from far - flung barangays allover the Philippines will certainly lose an affordable and convenient place to sleep and stay on in Metro Manila as the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) abruptly orders the closure of the Gwapotel or the MMDA Workers Inn today, Thursday, 17 August 2017.
Considered as a worker's haven, any paying poor individual can rest, stay and sleep and avail the use of the facilities of Gwapotel at a meager amount of only fifty pesos (P50.00) pesos for a twelve (12) hours stay.
Gwapotel, strategically located along Bonifacio Drive, Port Area, City of Manila, is a convenient and safer place for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who are processing their travel documents in Metro Manila.
This is also a comfortable second home for vendors, bus or taxi drivers, construction workers and others who cannot afford the rate of highly commercialized hotels in the metropolis.
Gwapotel, more prominently known as Hotel Gwapo is the prime project of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and erstwhile MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando.
On 08 August 2017, the regular workers who frequently rent beds at Gwapotel appealed to MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim to reconsider his earlier decision to close down Gwapotel on 31 August 2017.
However, the appeal went into the deaf ears of the MMDA Chairman and worst, a new order was issued which undertakes the abrupt closure of the Gwapotel on 15 August 2017.
This insensitive order of the incumbent MMDA Chairman shall be implemented today, Thursday, 17 August 2017.
The sudden closure of Gwapotel reportedly lacks due notice to adversely affected workers and several other poor tenants.
