Since the Telecommunications Act of 1996, media cross-ownership laws have been relaxed to the point of being ineffective. Now, essentially, six multi-billion dollar companies own 99% of the media that the US consumes, including movies, TV and music. Since the courts seems unwilling to uphold FCC rulings, legislation is needed to reverse the concentration of media power.
