The Central Park Five case represents one of the most egregious examples of investigator misconduct in the history of the American criminal justice system.

After a Central Park jogger was severely assaulted in 1989, five black and Latino boys -- pictured above -- were subjected to a coercive interrogation, and then wrongfully convicted of the assault. All were later exonerated after a prison inmate confessed to the crime in 2002.

Now, five New York senators -- Myrie, Benjamin, Hoylman, Rivera, and Salazar have introduced a bill that would end the use of deceptive Reid interrogation methods. Specifically, the bill would bar the use of any confession or statement when it was obtained "by knowingly communicating false facts about evidence." So police interrogators would have to stop lying to suspects.

Senate Bill S324 doesn't specifically ban the use of biased, guilt-presuming "victim-centered," "Start by Believing," or "trauma-informed" methods. But it's definitely a step in the right direction.
