You may remember back in July we reported on the case of former Virginia governor Douglas Wilder, falsely accused of sexual misconduct at Virginia Commonwealth University, and victimized by a flawed "victim-centered" investigation:

  1. The investigation ignored exculpatory phone records,
  2. The investigator did not press the complainant to resolve inconsistencies, and
  3. Impartial investigative methods allegedly were not followed.

His "conviction" by the campus Kangaroo Court was later reversed on appeal.

But the good governor wasn't done. So earlier this month Wilder issued a a strongly worded Statement that concluded,

  • “Among those things more needed is the improvement in the administration of justice and equity, and the acknowledgement of the need to make Due Process REAL and not just sloganeering.”

Some people like to think of impartial and fair investigations as a partisan issue. But to Democrat Doug Wilder, this isn't about partisan politics. This is about fundamental fairness.

If you'd like to express thanks to Gov. Wilder for issuing his courageous Statement, feel free to email him: ldwilder@vcu.edu
