Recently columnist E. Jean Carroll accused President Trump of an alleged assault. She claimed the incident took place in a store dressing room while she was about to try on lingerie. She said Trump pinned her against a wall, pulled down her tights, and penetrated her.

Then her accusation began to unravel. She admitted she “started laughing” in the middle of the assault. Carroll illogically said there was nothing “sexual” about the incident. She claimed most persons think of rape as “sexy.” To top it off, someone found her tweet proclaiming, “I’m a MASSIVE Apprentice fan” – very unlikely that a rape victim would be a big fan of a show starring her assailant.

And this past Friday, Carroll admitted that she used to sexually harass former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes:

“I roll up my trouser legs. I would wait for the camera to come over. Then I would slowly pull up the right and then the left trouser leg. It would say Roger Ailes. I would say, ‘He’s my future husband.’ It never stopped." (see attached article)

Amazingly, the “Believe the Survivor” crowd has rallied to spin Carroll's dubious story, using concepts from trauma-informed theory:

  • “It makes sense that, for some survivors, there might be a response of laughter” -- Janina Scarlet
  • “Since the ‘perfect victim’ doesn’t exist, the onus is on the rest of us to believe victim’s stories—whether they laugh or cry while telling them.” – Zoe Weiner

We hope the trauma-informed advocates will keep using Jean Carroll as their poster child. More proof of the absurdity of their ideology.
