“Imagine the message it would send if [VAWA] is not reauthorized. Ask yourself, what message would it send to every one of our daughters, every woman imprisoned in her own home?” -Vice President Joe Biden, at 2012 YWCA National Conference

Women cannot wait! Congress must act now to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).

Domestic violence and sexual assault are crimes of epidemic proportion that directly affect 1 in 4 women in the United States and touch the lives of millions of others.

Without the Violence Against Women Act, victims of domestic violence and sexual assault will lose critical lifesaving services, including prevention programs, protection for victims of sexual violence, housing protection, and programs for dating and sexual violence victims on college campuses.

All women should be free to live lives free of domestic violence and sexual assault, regardless of race, citizenship status, sexual orientation, and gender identity. And all women who have suffered domestic violence or sexual assault deserve support. We need a VAWA that respects and protects ALL women.

Congress must get the VAWA reauthorization done--lives are at stake. You can help by adding your voice. The women of this country cannot wait. Demand that Congress reauthorize an inclusive VAWA right away!

With your help, domestic violence programs can continue to help survivors and their children find safety, build self-sufficiency and understand that their lives are worthwhile.
