Former Vice Chancellor of Anna University Shri E Balagurusamy has expressed anguish at the Tamil Nadu Government's decision to oppose the three language formula of the New NEP and continue with the existing two languages of Tamil and English only. Learning languages are an important part of a child’s cognitive development. Also, the three language formula aims to promote multilingualism and national harmony. He has said that TN is the only state in the country to deny its students opportunity to learn any indigenous Indian language other than Tamil. This 50 year old policy of the TN Government has to change and in the current age and space all students in Tamil Nadu should be given an opportunity to learn at least one more indigenous Indian language. This would greatly widen the scope and opportunities for students of Tamil Nadu.
