President Obama and Congress,

At this critical time, we need Jeffrey Sachs to be elected as the next President of the World Bank.

Jeffrey Sachs has dedicated his entire adult life to tackling extreme poverty around the globe. As a Harvard-trained economist, Dr. Sachs has traveled to more than 125 nations, working with governments, businesses, and civil society in finding practical solutions to alleviate poverty.

From his role as Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and serving as Special Adviser to the UN Secretary General on the Millennium Development Goals to founding the international non-profit Millennium Promise Alliance, Dr. Sachs has forged strong public-private partnerships. Sachs has been able to bring together Presidents and Prime Ministers, CEOs, community leaders and global advocates to work together and find solutions to seeming intractable problems. His leadership has contributed to major breakthroughs, including the launch of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, which has saved more than 6 million lives in the last decade.

One of Sachs' greatest gifts is his ability to effectively articulate solutions to global challenges that the public can understand and embrace. His books have engaged millions of Americans and thought leaders around the globe and helped explain how we can better meet the needs of the world's poorest communities. Across the United States, books like "The End of Poverty" have captivated Millennials and young Americans and shown them how smart investments in foreign policy can have significant impact and bolster US national security.

Serving as President of the World Bank is a job that carries major responsibility. Dr. Sachs has recently stated in the Washington Post that he is "eager for this challenge," and that, "Properly led, the World Bank can build bridges among science, business, civil society and finance that will put sustainable solutions within reach." We, the undersigned, stand with Dr. Sachs and urge you to nominate him to serve as the next President of the World Bank. Americans and allies across the globe will be well served by this visionary leader who will spend every day fulfilling the World Bank's core objective: reducing poverty.

Thank you for your consideration.
