Last year, President Obama called on Congress to raise the federal minimum wage.

Although Congress failed to act, 21 states and countless businesses have taken things into their own hands—passing laws to raise state minimum wages or agreeing to pay employees more.

It’s a great start, but it doesn’t go far enough. So in his State of the Union address this year, President Obama called on Congress once again to raise the minimum wage— to $10.10—to ensure that all Americans earn a living wage for a day’s work.

Democrats know that in America, anybody who works full time should never have to raise a family in poverty. Raising the minimum wage is good for American families, and it’s good for America’s bottom line.
