Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease that cannot be prevented and has no cure. The only current treatment is daily insulin shots or constantly wearing an insulin pump and countless "finger pokes" to monitor blood glucose. It is very different from other types of diabetes and is a constant daily struggle for all those suffering from it's all too often relentless rage. Families affected by Type 1 diabetes need more opportunity for financial assistance. Most families do not qualify for assistance because of income. Families should not in a sense be punished for working and trying to provide for their family. All the while caring for a family member with Type1 24/7. Type 1 Diabetes never rests. The expense of caring for Type1 is enormous and will follow those diagnosed with it for life. With all someone with Type 1 or those caring for them have to worry about on a regular basis choosing between life saving insulin and supplies or bills paid and groceries in the fridge should not be one of them. By raising the allowed household income and considering medical cost on applications for assistance for families affected by Type 1 you essentially will take one less worry out of the equation and give them back a chance to live and enjoy life without the constant worry if things will ever be ok again. I have started this petition because I am the mother of three and my oldest was diagnosed Type1 at age 9. With two working parents in the home there is no "assistance" for us so we know this financial struggle all too well! All we want is to give our family back a sense of peace and focus on the fight against Type 1 and enjoy every moment with our loved ones rather than how we will cover medicines and supplies, what we are gonna eat for the week, and if we are gonna be able to keep our vehicle and home.
