Congress, Help Our Veterans Complete their Education! Pass HR 5545: REMOTE Act!

The Issue

Sign this petition to help veterans by asking Congress to extend certain expiring provisions of law relating to benefits provided under Department of Veterans Affairs educational assistance programs during COVID-19 pandemic.

Ask Congress to pass the H.R. 5545: Responsible Education Mitigating Options and Technical Act.

Since the Spring of 2020, a series of laws were enacted giving VA certain authorities to continue payment of education benefits and Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) to GI Bill students during the COVID-19 emergency. These laws enhance and expand benefits for GI Bill beneficiaries who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19.

Currently, the special COVID-19 laws mean

  1. VA will continue to pay your education benefits (including MHA) at the resident rate
  2. You may be eligible to receive continuation of certain education benefits through December 21, 2021, if you or your school were negatively affected by COVID-19.

Once this laws ends, and Covid-19 forces your school into online course delivery, veterans will have no choice but to:

  • receive the online rate of MHA currently at $871.
  • Compare that to the city with the highest MHA in the nation,  San Francisco at  $4,971!
  • That's a $4,100 difference!

Check out our the MHA in your area using the GI Bill® Comparison Tool

It may not affect your school NOW but with unpredictability of COVID19 and its variants, it may.

It's not only veterans and military-affiliated students that should be concerned, everyone should be concerned because this negative economic impact is not isolated to these select group of students, its effects will impact EVERYONE!

To the United States Congress: Extend the Special Covid-19 Law and help our communities thrive! Pass H.R. 5545: Responsible Education Mitigating Options and Technical Extensions Act also known as the REMOTE Act
