Congdon Park Hockey Club

To address comments we've received, Congdon Park Hockey would like to address and clarify one issue in particular related to this petition. In our petition we state: "NOLCP has clearly expressed that their vision regarding the future of Lower Chester Park does not include youth hockey." We have updated this line on the petition to read as follows: "NOLCP has clearly expressed that their vision regarding the future of Lower Chester Park does not include organized youth hockey."
To have a functioning outdoor youth hockey program, associations need adequate rink space for organized team practices, space for recreational hockey, and space for pleasure skating. Proposals have been put forward recently that would eliminate some of the current ice space to be replaced by space that is green in the summer and untouched in the winter. If this happens, organized youth hockey will not survive at Lower Chester Park, and therefore maintenance of the one rink, which likely will remain at the location, will also come to a conclusion. It is very important for all parties involved in this discussion to recognize the difference between organized youth hockey and the opportunity to play recreational hockey at a park. It is just as important to recognize the synergy between organized youth hockey at city parks and the availability of maintained ice for the community. The bottom line: Congdon Park Hockey could not survive without the space we are currently using for organized youth hockey.
