As a parent with kids enthusiastically participating in grassroots sports and someone sharing a bond with numerous friends under the same circumstances, we find ourselves collectively bewildered by the dramatic 75% increase in pitch hire fees by the Caerphilly County Borough Council (CCBC). This hike presents an enormous burden to families and local clubs alike, hindering the promotion and development of grassroots football in our community.

Grassroots football plays a crucial role in keeping our youth active, promoting healthy lifestyles, and fostering a sense of teamwork and community. Yet, this unprecedented fee increase threatens to undermine these positive impacts.

Data has shown that pitch hire is a significant part of clubs' expenditures and such an increase could lead to insurmountable financial barriers for many grassroots football clubs (FA Grassroots Survey, 2019). This could have a further knock-on effect on youth participation rates, ultimately affecting the very fabric of grassroots football in our communities.
