The recent fires around Southern California have directly affected a minimal percentage of CVUSD students. For those who's home's are in danger from the various fires, attending to their needs is a priority. However for the majority of students in Thousand Oaks, Westlake, and Newbury Park, the fire is very unlikely to come in close proximity to CVUSD schools and neighborhoods. For those who are concerned with air quality, students will be inside classrooms for the majority of the day, and if smoke conditions worsen, lunch breaks and outdoor activities can be moved indoors minimizing the amount of time spent outside. The time that is spent outside during passing periods and before classes is only minimally more than the average time that would be spent outdoors if school was cancelled. Many students are simply complaining in order to get out of school which is understandable, however NEWSFLASH: Your tests and schoolwork will inevitably occur so quit putting it off. We hope you will consider helping to stop the unnecessary complaining and petition to follow state guidelines and attend school.
