Conduct Ground X-ray at Patriots Point for The Secret: A Treasure Hunt Box

Conduct Ground X-ray at Patriots Point for The Secret: A Treasure Hunt Box
The Issue
My children and I have spent countless hours engrossed in "The Secret: A Treasure Hunt," a 1981 book by Byron Preiss that has sparked our love for adventure and the story of immigrant groups in America. In this book, Mr. Preiss takes readers on a journey to 12 different cities, each holding a treasure box that, if found, can be claimed for a precious gem. Through countless hours of research, and a recently released picture of Patriots Point from 1982, we believe that Mr. Preiss buried the Charleston treasure box on the grounds of Patriots Point more than 40 years ago. It's time to find out!
Patriots Point, a landmark steeped in Charleston's rich military history, is more than just a potential dig site for us. It represents an opportunity to bring attention to Mr. Preiss' stories of immigrant populations in the U.S., particularly those of African Americans who are integral parts of Charleston's history.
However, the impending redevelopment project of the area threatens our search. If construction begins before we can verify if this is indeed the correct location, we may lose this treasure, and the story, forever.
We urge Patriots Point authorities to allow us the opportunity to conduct a non-invasive ground x-ray scan at Patriots Point as soon as possible. This action will not only potentially uncover a compelling piece of cultural history as told by Mr. Preiss, but also shine light on the diverse narratives that make up America's past.
Should we be fortunate enough to locate and retrieve the treasure box, we will donate it back to Patriots Point if they want to display the items.
Please sign this petition and help us find the treasure box and bring the story of American's migrants to life for future generations!
