The Issue

As an individual deeply connected to the rich cultural tapestry and artisanal skills of Sanganer, I am concerned about the burgeoning issue of pollution in this area. It's alarming to note that while Sanganeri hand block printing requires limited water and thus causes minimal pollution, the region's overall pollution levels have soared beyond permissible limits. This situation is primarily due to the significant contributions of the paper industry, fabric dyeing units, and screen printing units. These industries, through their extensive use of chemicals and water, discharge pollutants that severely impact our environment and the health of the communities who reside here.

In contrast, the time-honored tradition of Sanganeri hand block printing, a Geographical Indication (G.I.) process, stands as a testament to sustainable production practices. The artisans involved in this art form utilize techniques that are inherently lower in pollution, relying on limited water usage and biodegradable natural dyes. Despite this eco-friendly approach, there is a risk that hand block print units might also get indiscriminately blamed along with the major polluting industries due to a lack of clear data segregating pollution contributions.

Therefore, I urge the local environmental authorities and policymakers to conduct a detailed scrutiny of the pollution levels contributed by each industrial segment in Sanganer. By doing so, we can identify and separate the specific emissions from the paper, dyeing, and screen printing industries. This focused analysis will not only clarify the sources of pollution but will also enable authorities to implement targeted regulations. Maintaining transparency in this process is crucial to ensure that the traditional hand block printing units are not unjustly penalized and can continue to operate, preserving their cultural significance and economic livelihood.

Let's come together to protect the environment and support sustainable practices. By signing this petition, you support a brighter, greener future for Sanganer, where heritage practices are preserved and modern industries are held accountable for their environmental impact. We have the power to make a change. Sign now and lend your voice to this cause.
