Why this petition matters

Started by Adrian Chapmanlaw

Hi,

We are calling for a public consultation to take a fresh look at a wind farm idea for Poole Bay.

Some history:

Back in 2010 the 'Navitus' wind farm in Poole Bay was proposed. Unfortunately planning was refused in 2015 following pressure from certain Conservative councillors and MPs, some of whom appeared to have ties to fossil fuel companies. “Environmental concerns” were cited (though these were never substantiated), plus potential impacts to the tourist industry (which again were never proved: other seaside towns and cities have wind farms off their coast).

What I find incredible is that an oil rig appeared in Poole Bay in 2019! Where were the environmental concerns and worries about damage to tourism then?

So here we are in 2022, in the midst of a massive climate crisis, with energy prices continuing to climb due to our reliance on fossil fuels. If Navitus and other similar renewable projects had gone ahead we would be benefiting immensely right now. Our grid would not only be cleaner but our electricity cheaper. Public opinion appears to have shifted significantly too.

I believe it is time to take a fresh look at Navitus, using the next generation of wind turbines.

What I am asking for is a public consultation for residents and tourists revisiting the idea of a wind farm being installed in the area. If you support this idea of a public consultation, please sign this petition which I will then take to the BCP administration.
