The Issue

Phi Alpha Rho Sigma Tau Social Work Honor Society as a club is appalled and disturbed by the university's choice to platform known white supremacist, Jared Taylor. Fascism and white supremacy are not ideologies we can tolerate in our university that stands for power, courage, love, dignity, resilience, curiosity, and humility.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Jared Taylor is one of America's most notorious white supremacists and he consistently propagates for the race-driven division of society. His ideologies are a clear threat to the multicultural and diverse fabric of our university.

Hosting such figures not only undermines the values our university stands for, but it also makes many of our students feel unsafe and threatened. It is imperative that we protect the diverse composition of our university and ensure that it continues to be a space where everyone feels secure and accepted, regardless of their ethnic, racial, or cultural backgrounds.

Let us send a clear message that hate speech and bigotry are not welcome at Colorado Mesa University. We believe in acceptance, diversity, and respect. It is necessary to condemn such actions that foster hate and discord amongst us. We request the university administration to think about its inaction on Jared Taylor's presence. President John Marshal and CMU must openly condemn Jared Taylor's rhetoric.
