Why this Petition Matters; Please help by Sharing it Far and Wide

Dear Supporters,
Your support of this petition is greatly appreciated. #Justiceforhanifa movement is not only about one person. This is about every student who has ever felt unsafe, unheard, or afraid to speak because someone used their position of power against them. When we say #JusticeForVictims, we are saying that every harassment victim deserves dignity, protection, fairness, and real action; note retaliation, silence, victim shaming, or empty promises.
The Daily Monitor publication in Uganda has documented how widespread sexual harassment is in Ugandan Universities.
Many victims stay silent because they fear retaliation, stigma, victim-blaming, ridicule, damaged grades, lost opportunities, or not being believed. This is not a small problem; it is a serious barrier to education, safety, and equal rights. Reports have shown that at least 88% of female students at Makerere University experienced sexual harassment, yet most never reported it because they did not trust the reporting systems or feared consequences (read report here).
Makerere University says it has a zero-tolerance policy and reporting channels, including the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate, the Dean of Students, and MakSafeSpace. But a policy only protects people when it is known, trusted, enforced, and backed by clear consequences. Survivors need safe reporting, confidentiality, timely investigations, protection from retaliation, support services, and accountability for offenders.
The goal must be a safe space at campus where students can learn without fear and where reporting abuse does not put their future at risk.
Signing this petition is a simple but powerful way to stand with survivors and demand a stronger, practical anti-harassment policy.
Your signature says : we believe victims, we reject impunity, and we will not allow fear and power to decide who gets justice. Will you please sign and share?
