The school is having meetings today and more classes can be next. If your final exam format has not yet been determined, you could be at risk. McGill has BANNED all forms of online proctoring due to privacy concerns.
I recommend all students to email their concern to s.gabriele@concordia.ca (vice provost) and anne.whitelaw@concordia.ca (provost), as well as their professors and faculty deans for whom are affected by this (such as the Economics department for those enrolled in ECON 203, ECON 221). An example template could be as follows:
Subject: Concordia University should not implement proctored final exams
Dear [ ], (Sandra and/or Anne, professor, dean of department)
My name is [y] and I'm currently an undergraduate student at Concordia University in [z].
Considering that the world is going through an unprecedented crisis in the form of the COVID-19 Pandemic, I do not believe it is right for Concordia to implement proctored exams.
During the Winter 2020 semester, students are facing challenges that will negatively impact their academic performance in ways that are disproportionate and, in some cases, severe.
Many students relied on school computers and may not have access to webcams. Additionally, the majority of us are not comfortable with giving up our digital privacy and giving software access to our computers.
For these reasons, I demand that Concordia University reconsider privacy-invading restrictions on final exams.
Regards,
[y]
