Over the past few months we've quietly been liaising with a number of Ministers in various Australian states regarding your desire to implement Compulsory Single File for cyclists who ride in large groups.
Various stakeholders in Queensland, Victoria, and West Australia have been helping us get our global online presence in place, along with ePetitions in each state.
While it has been an exciting time, nonetheless it's not a small thing to change legislation on this sort of scale. When the Italians first promoted the idea of Compulsory Single File it was met with intense resistance. For example, Italian Transport Minister Danilo Toninelli is a former bike racer himself and he lost a lot of former cycling friends after his efforts to make that legislation become reality back in 2014.
Contrary to a load of fake news by cycling advocates who openly despise the concept of riding single file, the Italians did NOT experience a net rise in cycling fatalities after implementing Compulsory Single File. To the contrary, prior to 2014 Italy regularly experienced over 300 cycling deaths each year. After CSF was introduced Italy's cycling fatality count has fallen steadily to almost 30% less in 2019.
Compulsory Single File was introduced in Italy in 2014
- Cycling deaths in Italy in 2013 were 301
- Cycling deaths in Italy in 2014 were 273
- Cycling deaths in Italy in 2015 were 249
- Cycling deaths in Italy in 2016 were 275
- Cycling deaths in Italy in 2017 were 254
- Cycling deaths in Italy in 2018 were 219
- Cycling deaths in Italy in 2019 were 198
But things are getting worse in Holland!
The Netherlands (a country which is universally applauded by cyclists as the world's greatest example of cycling perfection) continues to see their cycling road toll grow every year. Quite remarkably, a nation of just 17 million people experienced 228 cycling road deaths last year. In Australia, we experienced 39 cycling road deaths, of which 7 didn't even involve a car.
All that being said, it's clearly understood cyclists in Australia and North America will continue to fight Compulsory Single File to the very death. It's a given they will never EVER accept Compulsory Single File unless it is forced on them by you, the silent majority. Why? At it's core the issue is a behavioural issue. Currently, cyclists believe their behaviour is acceptable because it's lawful. However, you the motorists of this world, don't feel the behaviour of cyclists in large groups is acceptable, therefore the legislation needs to change.
At the moment, one of the most popular claims we're hearing Australian cyclists make is a claim which argues all of your signatures are fake. Supposedly we paid Chinese robots to create fake signatures with fake email accounts to boost your numbers. Yes, that's how ridiculous cyclists are in their attempts to keep their heads in the sand so all we can do is remind you (and them) the only people who actually believe that rubbish are cyclists.
Here is a newspaper link where Change.org itself says no evidence of fake signatures on Single File petition
We have all the signatures, comments, postcodes, and email addresses in both CSV form and PDF form. The data is huge and there isn't a fake robot signature amongst them. It's quite telling the cycling advocates out there would resort to that fake claim as part of their resistance to Compulsory Single File. It's just more proof the legislation is going to have to be forced on them against their will.
Another fake claim the cycling zealots are throwing around at the moment is a claim which says we're pushing for this legislation because one (or all of us) have mental health issues, further we're supposedly obsessed with vengeance because we're former cyclists and we were kicked out of every cycling group in the country. Again, the only people who believe that rubbish are cyclists. And sure, cyclists are going to believe what ever they want to believe. But at the end of the day, the resistance we're seeing from cyclists here in Australia is exactly the same as what happened in Italy when the Italians introduced Compulsory Single File. The playbook is identical. .
In a few days our global website will be on air, and we look forward to working with people in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and North America in helping Compulsory Single File become legislation in those regions, just like it is in Italy.
Kind Regards, Single File Please
