Add a CompostNOW pick-up station to Tulane/Loyola Campus area

The Issue

"Compost NOW is a free residential food waste collection project in New Orleans. Master Composter Lynne Serpe and our team of volunteers partner with the New Orleans Public Library to build on the community library model of reuse and resource sharing in a place that's convenient to everyone, across all demographics and ages. It is based of of the model Lynne started and ran with the Queens Library system—which is still ongoing years later.

Founded in January 2017, our ultimate goal is to build a network of community composters in every neighborhood in New Orleans, collectively diverting tons of food waste from the landfill each month. In 2018, we hope to divert 100,000 pounds of food waste from the landfill to local farms and compost centers."

Right now, there are no large-scale composting programs at Tulane University (although I am not sure about Loyola). Adding a Compost NOW pick-up station closer to the Tulane University and Loyola University campuses would make composting more accessible to these college students and help meet the organization's mission of diverting more food waste from the landfill. Ideally, this collection station would be somewhere along Freret Street, such as outside NOLA Wesley.

Let's commit to becoming a more sustainable city by getting the students of Tulane and Loyola more involved in composting!
