The Issue

As a resident of Wakad, the incomplete Wakad–Balewadi bridge over the Mula River has turned my daily commute into a nightmare. A journey that should only take 15 minutes tragically extends to over 2 hours due to a 7 km detour, all because of a mere 200-meter unfinished road on the Balewadi side. The time spent in traffic severely impacts not only my productivity but also precious moments I could spend with my family. This issue doesn't just affect me; it impacts over 50,000 commuters who suffer daily, wasting countless hours because of this negligence.

For over a decade, this region has waited in hope for the completion of the bridge which would serve as a crucial link, easing traffic woes and improving the quality of life for thousands of residents. Repeated promises by authorities and court directives have failed to resolve the situation. The bridge holds immense importance for not just commuters, but also for the economic and social well-being of the surrounding communities.

In a rapidly growing city like Pune, infrastructural bottlenecks like this one discourage economic activities and hinder growth. The completion of this bridge would significantly reduce the carbon footprint due to reduced vehicular emissions from long detours, contributing towards a more sustainable environment.

We urge the Maharashtra Government, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to prioritize this project and expedite the completion of the Wakad–Balewadi bridge. The completion of these 200 meters is not just a patch on the road but a new beginning for the community. Let's rise above the administrative roadblocks and make our voices heard.

Join us in demanding immediate action and accountability. Sign this petition to emphasize the dire need for this infrastructure and make a positive change for the residents of Wakad, Balewadi, and all impacted commuters.
