The City of Melville approved the relocation of the Palmyra Farmers Market to Geo Thompson Park under a five-week trial commencing on 30 August 2026.  However, before the trial could be completed, the City withdrew the temporary approval and directed that market operations cease after 6 September 2026.

The decision was made before the full trial period had concluded and before proposed mitigation measures could be implemented and assessed.

The market had received strong community support at its new location, with positive feedback from residents, patrons, stallholders and local businesses.

This petition seeks to ensure that the approved trial is allowed to run its full course so that any decision regarding the future of the market is based on evidence gathered throughout the entire trial period, an assessment of potential mitigation measures, and consideration of the interests of the broader community that uses and benefits from the market. It is not seeking a permanent approval for the market, but rather a fair, transparent and evidence-based evaluation before a final decision is made
