Compel Shopify to Adopt a Canadian Payment Processor in Response to Trump's Tariffs

The Issue

This means literally billions of dollars back into the Canadian economy.

I am a proud Canadian who deeply believes in the economic strength of our country. "Make Canada great again" is more than just a saying for me. It's a call to action and an urgent request for change. We have all felt the impact of the 25% tariffs imposed by the Trump administration; this petition seeks to challenge one of those implications directly through the influence of Shopify.

As many may know, Shopify, a renowned e-commerce platform originating from Canada, employs Stripe, a US-based white label payment processor. This processing choice has implications that may not be beneficial for Canadian retailers owing to the 25% tariff stipulation.

True to our motto of "Stand on guard for thee," I propose that Shopify transition from its current US-based processor to a Canadian one. This change would serve to mitigate the impacts of the tariff on consumers and retailers alike. Not to forget, bolstering our homegrown economy by investing in local payment processing infrastructure.

It's high time we let giants like Shopify know that we expect them to wield their influence to protect our national interests, in this case, by sourcing locally for payment processing options. Let's seize this opportunity to diversify Shopify's supplier base and, in doing so, shield our economy from international trade volatilities.

With this petition, I ask you to support my call for Shopify to switch from a US-based payment processor to a Canadian one. Help make Canada great again, show your support, and sign this petition today.
