Each year, in the United States alone, 108,000 primates(monkeys and apes) are used for testing purposes. These tests usually require primates to be held in cages and separated from their families. 

These tests range from testing hygiene products on them to having experiments as cruel as tampering with the monkey's brain. Research shows that 90 percent of primates in laboratories exhibit abnormal behaviors that are caused by the physical abuse, psychological stress, social isolation, and barren confinement that they are forced to endure. 

These primates are being deprived of any sort of normal life and these highly intelligent animals should not be forced to suffer in the name of producing things that are not vital.
