Neurodiversity Employment Campaign

Neurodiversity Employment Campaign
The Issue
Thank you for reading our petition in your busy schedule and listening to the heartfelt call of UTM students.
''Neurodivergence" is the term for people whose brains function differently in one or more ways than is considered standard or typical. It includes conditions such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and Asperger. However, the traits of neurodiverse individuals have many significant strengths, and research has shown that these individuals tend to have above-average abilities in pattern recognition, memory, or mathematics. When they are employed, they are likely to make excellent contributions to organizations.
Current Situation:
Neurodivergent talents are often disadvantaged in the job market due to unequal employment opportunities and social discrimination. For example, a normal job interview session may be a major challenge, and job fitting requires a big adjustment due to their deficiencies in social skills. HR practitioners may not be willing to take the time to discover their strengths or to spend efforts to adjust the working environment for them. As a result, neurodivergent talents often fail to gain access to employment, or if hired are not properly included into the workplace. Over time, these problems affect their right as productive members of the society.
Solutions:
1. Organizations should embrace neurodivergent talents and their strengths as potential human capital.
2. Organizations should promote neurodivergent employment through suitable job creations and job accommodation.
3. Human resource function in organizations should accommodate the needs of neurodiverse individuals by revising HR processes and procedures to promote their employment and workplace inclusion.
Appeal:
Neurodivergent talents are a challenged group in society who need the help and care of the whole society. It is hoped that employers and HR can change the stigma against neurodivergent talents, give them respect and a chance to work.
Everything we do is about promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce, and society is better off because of us!
