KAPU ALOHA DISCLAIMER FOR SIGN WAVING:
To all those standing in protection of our ‘āina and voicing opposition to Arete Collective’s development:
We ask that you stand with us under the sacred practice of Kapu Aloha — a way of being that guides our actions with deep love, respect, discipline, and nonviolence. Kapu Aloha is a commitment. It is not just a feeling but a kuleana to carry ourselves with aloha, even in the face of opposition or provocation. We stand not in anger but in truth. Not in hatred but in protection of our land, our culture, and our future generations.
By joining us at any of our events, you agree to:
- Maintain peaceful and nonviolent behavior at all times
- Speak with aloha — no yelling, swearing, or degrading language
- Respect all people, even those who disagree with us
- Safety First! Stay off the roadway and follow all safety guidelines
- Uplift and protect keiki and kūpuna who may be present
- Stay centered in your intention: Aloha ‘Āina
This is not just a protest — it is a ceremony. Our presence is a prayer. Our voices are chants for justice. Let us move forward together, rooted in kapu aloha so that our message carries not only through traffic but into the hearts of our community and beyond.
Disclaimer: Mahalo for standing with us! Please remember that all participants are joining this sign-waving event voluntarily and at their own risk. The organizers are not responsible for any injuries, property damage, or any individual actions taken before, during, or after the event.

Urgent: Email / Call the Mayor, City Council, and DPP Today to Pause Development at Turtle Bay
Aloha Supporters!
We need everyone to email and call the Mayor and your city council members today/asap to urge them to act. Right now, the Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) could issue permits for the RR3 development at Turtle Bay any day without updated environmental reviews or meaningful community input. We’re urging DPP Director Dawn Apuna to pause all permits until transparency and proper assessments are ensured. 🚨As of 4/11/2025, Arete Phase 1 RR3 vertical building permits have not yet been approved, but the DPP site says, “inspection(s) in progress.” Check the DPP permit site here: https://dppweb.honolulu.gov/DPPWeb/Default.aspx?PossePresentation=TaxMapKey&PosseObjectId=56130058
What to Say in Your Email or Call - 808-768-4141:
Request a Pause – Ask DPP to pause all permits until an updated environmental review is conducted. Ask the Mayor and City Council to take action today to pause the permits. Demand Transparency – Urge decision-makers to involve the community in renegotiating outdated agreements from 1986 and redo the SEIS from 2013...
Highlight Key Concerns:
- The 1986 Unilateral Agreement and 2013 SEIS are outdated and do not account for today’s environmental and community impacts.
- Kahuku Point is home to endangered species and sacred iwi kūpuna – it must be protected.
- Increased development will worsen traffic, overburden emergency services, and drive gentrification.
Make it Personal – Share why you care about Turtle Bay and why this matters to you!
You can write your own message or use our letter templates for individuals and organizations.

We’re urging the Honolulu City Council, DPP, and developers to pause Turtle Bay’s expansion and give the community a real voice. Outdated agreements and waived reviews ignore critical issues like rising sea levels, endangered species, traffic, and cultural preservation. We’re calling for an updated SEIS, requiring a new SMA permit application and a renegotiated unilateral agreement with fair community benefits and full compliance with Native Hawaiian protections to safeguard our ʻāina and prevent further strain on overburdened local and natural resources.
