Community Petition in Opposition to 473 Woodbury Road Change in Zoning
The Issue
This petition is being submitted to the Huntington Town Board in opposition to a proposed application for a change of zoning for the property located at 473 Woodbury Road in Cold Spring Harbor (the “Property”) from R-80 Residential District (two acre zoning) to a Historic Building Overlay District so as to permit uses not normally allowed in the R-80 Residential District.
If the change of zone is approved by the Town Board, the owner and/or one or more of its tenants intends to operate and/or manage a commercial hotel with accompanying spa, wellness center, bar, restaurant and catering facilities. In addition, outside events with no limitation on the number of guests and few if any other limitations are allowed by the overlay district as filed. Outside events might include, among other activities, weddings, fundraisers, bands, concerts, and filming. The Property should remain zoned residential as the proposed change in zone and the proposed application will have an adverse impact upon the character of the community and cause further traffic congestion, safety considerations and noise and congestion in a residentially zoned area.
While I support and appreciate efforts to preserve Huntington’s historical character, I believe that this particular proposal is not in the best interest of our community or the larger township.
