Community Petition for Traffic Calming Measures on Broadmoor Road

Community Petition for Traffic Calming Measures on Broadmoor Road
The Issue
We, the undersigned residents of the Westerleigh neighborhood, respectfully request that Chesterfield County take action to address persistent traffic safety issues on our street.
Broadmoor Road was not originally intended to serve as a primary access point into the neighborhood. However, last-minute development decisions made it a main ingress/egress, resulting in increased vehicle traffic, excessive speeding, and unsafe conditions—particularly on a narrow road with frequent residential street parking.
In addition to speeding, we routinely experience:
- Vehicles failing to stop at posted stop signs
- Disregard for school bus stops and children at pickup/drop-off locations
- Frequent vehicle accidents involving parked cars and tight corners
- Heavy equipment and construction vehicles using Broadmoor as a residential construction route
- Cut-through traffic from the adjacent Summer Lake neighborhood
- Vehicles regularly exceeding 40 mph, well above the safe limit for a residential area
To make matters more urgent, the developer is planning to build 27 new homes off Broadmoor Road, which will only increase the volume and frequency of these dangers.
We are requesting the County consider the following specific actions:
Installation of a Four-Way Stop at the Intersection of Broadmoor Road and Cabretta Drive. This will reduce speeding and improve safety at a central traffic point.
This petition is focused solely on the vehicular traffic hazards presented by cut-through traffic and speeding automobiles.
We respectfully put Chesterfield County on notice that failure to address these long-standing and well-documented traffic safety issues increases the risk of a serious pedestrian injury or fatality. The undersigned residents are deeply concerned for the safety of children, families, and pedestrians along Broadmoor Road and urge immediate action.
