Help Keep the Chautauqua Lake Pops in Mayville
The Issue
The Chautauqua County Chamber of Commerce represents 900 member businesses across Chautauqua County. Nearly 70 of those member businesses reside in Mayville, NY. The business community stands strong in its support of the Chautauqua Lake Pops.
The Chautauqua Lake Pops has been an extremely valuable economic asset to the Village of Mayville and has enhanced the overall quality of life in Chautauqua County. The Pops was a key component of a transformation in Bemus Point, NY prior to Pops moving to Mayville. The Pops brought high-quality entertainment, energy, and thousands of people to Bemus Point. The energy and enthusiasm generated by the Pops helped inspire private investment in Bemus Point and brought with it needed foot traffic and increased sales to local businesses. We are witnessing the transformation that happened in Bemus Point now occurring in the Village of Mayville.
Event programming such as the Chautauqua Lake Pops plays a significant role in enhancing the area’s tourism industry. Approximately 32% of attendees who attend the Pops live outside the area. Those who attend arts and cultural programming tend to stay in the area longer and spend more than the average traveler. At its peak, the Pops generated $14.7 million in total economic activity in the area economy. As we come out of the pandemic the Pops is striving to get back on its feet and deliver a significant economic impact to a business community that has had a long and challenging year and a half. The Pops helps circulate new dollars into the economy, supports jobs, and boosts local tax revenues. Local and regional businesses need the Pops.
Chautauqua County and specifically Mayville need the type of programming that the Chautauqua Lake Pops delivers to the area. The Pops has been a catalytic event program in terms of enhancing the quality of life for the area's residents and bringing new dollars into our economy. The Pops must continue, and to that end, we urge you to work with the Pops to grant the appropriate permitting for the 2021 season.
We ask that you sign our petition in favor of keeping the Pops along the shores of Chautauqua Lake and moreso, in the Village of Mayville.
