Community Center Drive Crosswalk

Community Center Drive Crosswalk
The Issue
As I'm sure many others may have noticed, there are no crosswalks from the Community Center Drive to the neighborhood just across the street, even despite the large road. It's been a concern of mine for a while that I finally I emailed our city about. The reason I was given for our lack of a crosswalk there was that the curbs on the neighborhood side did not have a pedestrian ramp, and therefore putting a crosswalk there would not meet ADA standards.
Now, I would never complain about something needing to comply to ADA standards as I find it incredibly important too. I don't know why they can't cut the curbs but I didn't ask either, because I responded with an idea that would side-step this problem; a raised crosswalk.
This would have many benefits: the city wouldn't need to cut the curb, the pedestrians and kids would be higher and thus easier to see, since it would be level with the other curb it is wheelchair accessible, and it would provide a sort of gentle speed bump for cars entering a school area.
My proposal went largely unanswered. So, nearly two months later with no response, I've made this petition to try and see if anyone else would be interested in a crosswalk here, raised or not.
Now, why a crosswalk here, one might ask? Well, not only does it connect to the library and our recreation center, it also connects to the sports fields and is near the cemetery. All of these are places one would want easy, safe access to.
With the nearest crosswalk being around 700ft away and with our desert heats, many who choose to walk this route decide that crossing the road may be safer than braving the sun.
I certainly know these kids on Google Maps have made the same decision.
But just because people have crossed it doesn't make it necessarily safe or the pedestrians visible.
That is why I am making this petition, to show that we care about our Washington city community. After a month has passed, I will write another email with the petition attached to see if we all can't make a change to better our city for the people living in it.
