Stop the Permanent Lockout of the Basketball Court on the corner of 119th St. and Lex.

Stop the Permanent Lockout of the Basketball Court on the corner of 119th St. and Lex.

The Issue

At 160 East 120th Street, Samuel Stern Public School 7, (specifically the Basketball Court on the corner of 119th Street & Lexington Avenue) has been permanently closed for two years to its children and its residents living in the vicinity; unknowingly by the residents who live in the community. Children and young adults no longer has access to the basketball Court at all. Since the basketball Court has been closed the residents of that community do not have a recreational activities to do anything afterschool or on the weekends. Residents should not have to leave there neighborhood to search for a recreational Athletic field or playground outside of their residences for activities to do such as playing basketball; or the children playing in the playground area. We are petitioning for the basketball Court and playground be re-opened. We are also petitioning that there be set hours for the use of the basketball Court and playground and that garbage pails be placed within the Athletic field for disposal of trash within the park, so that the residents can take pride in keeping their neighborhood and community clean. Please join us in our efforts of getting the basketball court/playground open for recreational use during set opened and closed hours to keep the Athletic field from being used for loitering.
