Dear Supporter,
Unfortunately ASIC has informed us that they are unable to investigate the behaviour of Whitehouse because the actions surrounding Frances Abbott's $60,000 scholarship are not covered by the laws concerning the duty of directors under the Corporations Act. Even if the owner's behaviour contravened the company's own code of conduct, or constitution that is a private agreement and not something that can be prosecuted unless there were shareholders who were disadvantaged by the decision.
Any grievance caused to other students that did not receive a scholarship would only be prosecutable if there was an advertised scholarship that was subsequently denied to them. The ACCC would not be likely to investigate this however as the company's website states that, "Whitehouse does not currently offer scholarships to gain a place into the Bachelor of Design." Any individual, contrary decision by the owner to offer a scholarship does not therefore disadvantage any other student or equate with false advertising.
Most regrettably, without an investigation into the company's behaviour - and in the absence of a Federal ICAC to investigate Tony Abbott's failure to declare the gift - the NSW Police are under no obligation to offer Freya Newman immunity in return for providing evidence. We therefore urge all citizens who are outraged by the undeclared $60,000 scholarship to write to their local member of parliament demanding a Motion of No Confidence be raised against the Prime Minister - http://australia.gov.au/directories/contact-parliament
Until there is a opportunity for the electorate to express their opinion at the ballot box, we would ask everybody to maintain the fire of indignation and to discuss with their friends and relatives why the Abbott Government should not be given a second term no matter what softer policies they pretend to adopt or pork barreling they attempt to seduce us with in the run up to the next election.
Finally, on a different topic, I would ask everyone who cares about equality to donate to the overseas charity of their choice. The Abbott-Hockey decision to cut $1.52b p.a. from foreign aid (supported by Palmer) and to redirect aid only to those countries nearby that can somehow benefit us in return means that 1.2% of the total global foreign aid budget has been slashed from the countries that are in most desperate need of basic food and medicine. Any personal gift to replace that lost aid is essentially a great big new tax on those Australians who care about their fellow human beings but, until we vote for a change of leaders, there is no one else who will help the poor except for people like you who do have a conscience. Thanks.
Yours Sincerely,
Robby Miller
