Common Sense Immigration Enforcement
Common Sense Immigration Enforcement
The Issue
We, the undersigned, are concerned about our quality of life and economic
opportunities. Current immigration enforcement is undermining both. Numerous
examples exist of problematic enforcement from the detention of families and children to
sweeps of worksites. It is now clear immigration enforcement is based less on public
safety and instead is to achieve an artificial quota. Thus, immigration enforcement has
become an ideological tool that is at odds with our communities’ public safety and
economic development. We support law and order and the men and women who risk
their lives daily to provide our safety, but the current immigration enforcement practices
are no longer about safety or common sense.
To address both upholding immigration laws and preserving our communities’ quality of
life and economic development we request the adoption of the following common sense
immigration enforcement practices:
1. Prohibit enforcement in and near churches, schools and hospitals without a judicial warrent.
2. Prohibit enforcement at worksites without a judicial warrant.
3. Use judicial warrants to enter private property.
4. End roving patrols and stops.
5. Require the use of body cameras for ICE and BP officers that align with best
practices.
6. Prohibit ICE agents from being masked.
7. End family and children detention.
