Commit to One Year of Peace for a global ceasefire in 2028
The Issue
This initiative, One Year of Peace, is deeply personal to me. I believe that at the heart of our diverse world, there are common desires shared by people of all nations, faiths, and political persuasions: peace, safety, and a future for our loved ones. We all understand the profound fear of losing someone dear to us. By launching this project, we aim to shift how we perceive and treat human life, which is all too often reduced to a mere statistic in ongoing conflicts.
One Year of Peace is a call for world leaders to declare a global ceasefire lasting from January 1 through December 31, 2028—366 days dedicated to halting armed conflicts. Imagine the world united in this single, powerful initiative. During this year, we urge all nations and armed groups to lay down their weapons, prioritize the protection of civilians, allow unrestrained humanitarian access to those in dire need, and engage in sincere dialogue to lay the foundation for lasting peace.
Statistics from the United Nations indicate that armed conflicts displaced nearly 82.4 million individuals globally in 2020 alone. That's more than the entire population of Germany—people fleeing their homes, longing for safety, stability, and hope. With One Year of Peace, we can alter this narrative, giving families the chance to rebuild and children the opportunity to grow up in a world where peace is a reality, not a fleeting dream.
While one year won’t solve every conflict, it can be a starting point—a tangible goal that reframes our future choices. It is an unprecedented opportunity for leaders to display wisdom and courage, showing the world that humanity can rise above division and dispute.
To achieve this monumental goal, we need global cooperation. It's a vision that requires individuals, communities, organizations, and governments to come together, unified by the desire for peace. We are not only asking for a pause in fighting but for a proactive engagement in peace-building across nations by supporting diplomatic efforts, investing in dialogue and reconciliation, and ensuring sustainable development in conflict-prone areas.
Please sign this petition to urge world leaders to commit to One Year of Peace. Join us in proving that together, we can redefine our future and show what humanity can achieve when we prioritize compassion and unity over conflict.
We can make a difference. Let's make 2028 a year the world remembers as a turning point towards global tranquility.
