Columbia County Florida is a mainly rural county in North Central Florida.  Unfortunately, in this area, we have many residents whom do not treat animals with civility.  In this case a person trespassed into a private yard with a pistol to shoot my dog right in front of my family (children included).  No matter what the circumstances, this is unacceptable behavior.  This person is only being charged with two misdemeanors.  With this petition, we want to try and create consequences for those who commit these heinous acts of violence.  Also we want to bring to light that animals do have rights and those who violate those rights are punished properly.

This petition would bring animal rights to this rural community where very few animal rights exist, or should I say the animal rights laws are at least enforced.  We just lost our dog, a family member.  Needless to say this would bring some comfort to our family and the pet loving community.  If those in charge know that we are willing to fight for animal rights, maybe residents will think twice about committing acts of violence and cruelty.

We want our community to be aware that these terrible acts are actually occurring and that nothing is being done to punish those who are being cruel to animals.  Our dog should still be alive today, but thanks to a disgruntled neighbor who does not like pit bulls, she is now dead.  A senseless act that should result in some form of punishment for this person.
