Commissioner Jourová, prevent Roma from Via Idro, Milan, to be evicted!
The Issue
Dear Commissioner Jourová,
The city of Milan plans to evict 20 Roma families from the regular camp called 'Via Idro' who lived there since 26 years. They are Italian citizens, are living in peace in the neighborhood and send their children go regularly to school. They do not understand why they have to leave our homes, why their children have to lose the school, their belongings, their friends. After the eviction, Milan municipality will offer the containers at the Emergency Center where already families live that evicted from the slums.
A petition https://www.change.org/p/stop-eviction-roma-families-of-via-idro-milan signed by almost 1.200 people as well as other actions (like the children from the school of the Roma kids made a beautiful drawing!) has resulted in suspension of the evictions and a meeting with Deputy Major for the Security Marco Granelli, on January 15th with the people of Via Idro and their supporters, where he said the families will have 10 more days before being evicted. He intents to evict another 3 'campii nomadi' until the upcoming elections.
We call upon you to intervene and prevent these families loosing their home and dignity!
Sincerely yours,
Roma from via Idro, Consulta Rom e Sinti di Milano, ERGO Network and all other individuals and organisations supporting this call.
