I would like to change the “MEN WORKING” construction signs to PEOPLE WORKING it is sexist
The Issue
My concern’s about banning the “men at work” signs to a gender neutral message. Seeing as it perpetuates this stereotype that men do hard labor and other genders don’t. It is a reminder of a social norm that shouldn’t be accepted signs like this were used worldwide in the 70’s it is now 2018. We must spread knowledge and a modern way of thinking for generations to come. It starts by small details like this, I feel very strongly about banning “MEN WORKING SIGNS”. According to the United States Department of labor “only 9% of U.S. construction workers are women, which is a relatively small percentage compared to other industries there were still over 800,000 women workers employed in construction (i.e., managerial, professional, administrative, and product occupations, such as laborers, electricians, plumbers, etc”. We must take these few into account no matter what the number is or how its decline. Because educating and keeping an open mind for generations to come is equally as important. By signing this petition you are saying that you agree that “PEOPLE WORKING” is a gender neutral sign for what is “MEN WORKING”. By signing this petition you are agreeing to show people of today and days to come that men are not the only gender that can do hard labor.
