Growing up as a young Black girl in Chambersburg, PA, it's challenging to find local figures who resonate with our heritage and aspirations. Creating a statue of Zelda Wynn Valdes represents more than just honoring her legacy; it symbolizes hope, determination, and pride for the Black community. Zelda Wynn Valdes was a trailblazing Black fashion designer who broke numerous racial barriers in her time. Known for dressing iconic figures like Josephine Baker and Ella Fitzgerald, she proved that talent knows no racial bounds. Her work not only revolutionized fashion but also paved the way for countless other minority designers to follow their dreams despite societal obstacles.

Today, as we strive to instill confidence and inspiration in our youth, it becomes imperative to celebrate historical figures like Zelda who can serve as shining examples of excellence and perseverance. A statue of Zelda in Chambersburg wouldn’t just be a tribute; it would be a daily reminder to every young Black girl that greatness is achievable and closer than it appears.

This initiative will champion the cause of diversity and inclusion, encouraging young Black girls to pursue their passions with the belief that they too can shatter the glass ceilings of societal expectations. By shining a light on Zelda’s achievements, we hope to inspire a new generation of leaders in fashion, art, and beyond.

We call upon the local government and community leaders of Chambersburg to unite in this cause by commissioning a statue of Zelda Wynn Valdes. Let us honor her contributions and offer our young girls a beacon of hope and inspiration they can pass by daily. Your support in signing this petition will bring us one step closer to bringing this dream to life. Please join us in making this vision a reality and sign the petition today.
