Commission a statue of Sir David Attenborough in Trafalgar Square
The Issue
Sir David Attenborough is more than just a voice of our planet; he is a symbol of unwavering commitment to nature. With his impending 100th birthday, the time is right to honour this national treasure appropriately. His tireless work in educating and inspiring millions all over the world about environmental conservation and the biodiversity of our planet makes him deserving of a permanent monument right in the heart of London.
Currently, the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square boasts the temporary 'Lady in Blue' artwork, a testament to the ever-changing face of one of London's most iconic squares. However, it is time we make space for permanence—something that resonates profoundly with the enduring legacy of Sir David Attenborough. A statue dedicated to him in Trafalgar Square would not only celebrate his life’s work but also serve as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to care for the Earth.
Sir David's devotion to the planet has sparked transformative awareness and positive change. His documentaries such as "The Blue Planet," "Planet Earth," and many others have brought the wonders of the natural world into our homes and here in the UK, inspired generations to champion environmental causes. His commitment has spurred initiatives and influenced policies worldwide, outstanding accomplishments worthy of our deepest respect and admiration.
London, as a global city, can set an example by championing a figure who has played an invaluable role in environmental advocacy. This tribute is not just about celebrating an individual; it celebrates a vision for a sustainable future, which London should proudly lead.
We kindly urge the Mayor of London and the relevant authorities to commission a permanent statue of Sir David Attenborough for Trafalgar Square. This act will ensure his legacy lives on, inspiring countless future generations to engage positively with our environment.
Please sign the petition to support the commissioning of a permanent statue of Sir David Attenborough, reflecting on his lasting contributions to our planet.
