From 1st April, due to massive funding cuts there will not be any Lactation Consultants at the Poole and Bournemouth NHS Breastfeeding Support groups, nor will they will be available for home visits or phone calls to advise Mums on breastfeeding issues, help, support, or provide professional, qualified help. The service will be run by volunteers instead.

Whilst peer supporters do their best to be a listening ear and support mums, they are not able to advise or give the advice that a fully qualified Lactation Consultant can, nor can they diagnose many breastfeeding issues that need to be addressed by a professional.
