Tobey

The Issue

This is about a 4 year old yorkshire terrier named Tobey! Tobey was a beloved, faithful companion, loved by everyone that knew him. Tobey was social, outgoing, playful and obedient, and loyal to those that cared and loved him. One day while Tobey was playing in his own yard he was viciously attached by a neighbors dog! ( named Twyla). Tobey was picked up by this dog, bitten several times and was shook so hard that he had major internal damage. Tobey was rushed to Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialist and Emergency Services where he underwent major surgery. Unfortunately Tobey did not survive the surgery and passed away later that day. Twyla's family repeatedly stated that they would get a fence and secure Twyla in her own yard going forward. Several months have passed and there is no additional fencing, nothing has been added to secure that Twyla will not attack again. The owners have done nothing to be more responsible dog owners. There is no dog warning signs or anything posted that a dangerous dog lives there. My concern is that Twyla attacked once, what is to say that she will no attack again! The property that is ajacent is the Highcliff Elementry school. On a daily basis there are lots of children out playing and siblings, and family animals that come to pick up students. I worry and pray every day that everyone is safe and unharmed. I feel it is my duty to inform the residents of Ross Township that there is a vicious animal so close to the school that their children, grandchildren and loved ones may be in danger daily. Neighbors in that area feel threatened to take a leasurely walk with family members or their animals out for a stroll. Other neighbors no longer enjoy sitting outside with family members or letting their dogs run free in their own yard for fear of what has happened and what could happen again. Nothing is a given, and just because you say it would never happen again, does not mean it will not!! Life is uncertain.
Please let's make sure everyone in Ross Township and the children in Highcliff Elementry are safe each and every day! There are many things to be feared of daily, but please don't make it be our own back yard!
The owners have done nothing to secure Twyla and are irresponsible dog owners. Lets all be proactive and stand up for what is right. Freedom to be in your own yard and not fearful of what may happen!
