Commercial Road/ Port Noarlunga bypass
The issue
Dear Onkaparinga Council,
We are writing to express our concern regarding the traffic congestion and safety issues on Commercial Road in the Port Noarlunga area. As members of the community, we have noticed an increase in traffic flow and long wait times at the Port Noarlunga roundabouts, causing frustration and delay for drivers. The traffic congestion on Commercial Road is also worsened by the Saltfleet ST intersection, which can back up traffic all the way to Flaxmill Road.
We strongly believe that an upgrade to the Port Noarlunga roundabouts is necessary to improve traffic flow and reduce wait times. By widening the roundabouts and creating additional lanes, traffic will be able to flow more freely, easing congestion during peak hours. Additionally, we suggest the construction of a bypass road to divert traffic away from the roundabouts. A bypass road would alleviate the heavy traffic congestion that frequently occurs on Commercial Road, allowing drivers to reach their destinations more quickly and safely.
Moreover, Seaford Road is the main feeder to Seaford, Seaford Meadows, and to Commercial Road from the Southern Expressway. When traffic is halted because of an incident on South Road, the overflow traffic then flows to Commercial Road, only worsening this situation. With the new Port Noarlunga estate being built, we feel that no thought has gone into how residents will access the new estate without increasing the pressure on the lacking infrastructure.
We strongly recommend that Commercial Road should be classified as a main road and that additional lanes, instead of roundabouts, should be added. We believe that Commercial Road should be 4 lanes from Beach Road to Griffith Drive.
We understand that any construction project would require funding and careful planning, but we strongly believe that the benefits of an upgraded road system would be substantial. Not only would it improve safety and traffic flow, but it would also promote economic growth in the area by making it easier for businesses and tourists to access Port Noarlunga and the surrounding areas.
As local residents, we urge you to take action to upgrade Commercial Road and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors in the area.
