Combat Inhumane Treatment and Unnecessary Euthanasia of Companion Animals

Combat Inhumane Treatment and Unnecessary Euthanasia of Companion Animals
The Issue
As a deeply committed animal lover, I am profoundly concerned about the inhumane treatment of companion animals and the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy pets in our community. The love I feel for these animals impels me to fight for their rights and to press for more humane laws and exertive spay-and-neuter requirements, because every pet deserves a right to a full, healthy, and loving life.
Every year, millions of healthy, adoptable dogs and cats are euthanised in the United States alone because there are simply more pets than there are responsible homes for them. The Humane Society of the United States estimates that animal shelters care for 6-8 million dogs and cats every year, of which approximately 3 million animals are euthanized ((the HSUS, Pet Overpopulation Estimates, 2011).
Our communities need to implement stronger laws against animal mistreatment, and assert a more comprehensive spay-and-neuter requirement to control the pet population. Ignoring this crisis allows the continuous cycle of animal cruelty, overpopulation, and euthanasia.
To protect our beloved companion animals, we call upon the local government and responsible agencies to revisit animal welfare laws, tighten regulations, and above all, promote community education about the importance of responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals.
Please sign this petition and help us protect our companion animals and stop the euthanasia of healthy, adoptable animals. Your signature could mean life instead of death for a loved pet.
