Having served in the military, I’ve always held a sense of pride in this nation, despite its imperfections. Yet, witnessing the nation’s current trajectory, where division, hate, and misinformation have become the status quo, it's disheartening beyond words. Today, our country finds itself in a state of crisis; a pervasive climate of negativity, largely stimulated by our own government.

Through targeted misinformation and a propagandistic media landscape, an effort is underway to reshape our values, encouraging us to accept hate and violence as societal norms. This deception manipulates citizens into mistaking lies for truth while branding the truth as radical ideology. Our once unified national spirit is fractured, and the land many of us fought for is darkened by a seemingly endorsed malice.

The consequences extend beyond our borders. Former allies who once respected and trusted the United States may now view us with skepticism, questioning our policies and intentions. Moreover, domestically, this era of misinformation is silencing the trust we have in our institutions; even the military, which has long been a symbol of valor and integrity, is seen through a lens of suspicion. This erosion of trust and respect is detrimental and unsustainable.

We must reject this new normalcy of division and hatred. Solutions need to be put into action, starting with holding our leaders accountable for the dissemination of falsehoods and the fostering of societal rifts. Media outlets should undertake unbiased and truthful reporting, striving always to inform rather than mislead. Transparency and integrity should be at the helm of governance and national discourse.
