Justice For Ma’Khia Bryant

The Issue

Ma’Khia Bryant, 16 years old, was getting attacked by a group of girls at her house. She did the right thing by calling the police for help to de-escalate the situation. She had a weapon for self defense against the girl who was attacking her. When the officers arrived, Ma’Khia was immediately shot several times and she passed away. The police could and should have used a taser instead but deadly force was once again the go-to response against a Black child. This all happened while Derek Chauvin’s trial was ongoing and a verdict was being announced in front of millions across the globe who countlessly protested for Black Lives Matter over the course of a year. I am calling for justice for Ma’Khia Bryant next because our social justice work is not over yet. Our activism must continue to ensure we get police accountability. Thank you for reading.
